I'm Ismaeel Motala, a sole proprietor trading as Ask Ismaeel. This policy explains what personal information this website collects, why, and what you can do about it. For the purposes of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA), I am the responsible party.

When you complete a form. Your name, email address, and the content of your message. If you subscribe to the newsletter, your email address.
Automatically, through analytics. This site uses Google Analytics 4. It collects your IP address (used to derive approximate location, then discarded by Google), browser and device type, pages visited, time on page, and referring website. This data is aggregated and is not used to identify you personally.

I do not sell personal information, and I do not share it for third-party advertising.
Enquiries are kept for 24 months from last contact. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Analytics data follows Google's retention settings, typically 14 months.

Some of these process data outside South Africa. Where that happens, I take reasonable steps to ensure comparable protection, as required by section 72 of POPIA.
Analytics cookies are used to understand how people navigate the site. You can block cookies in your browser settings; parts of the site may behave differently if you do.
Under POPIA you can ask to see what I hold about you, correct it, have it deleted, object to processing, or withdraw consent. Email its@askismaeel.space and I'll action it.
You can also complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za or enquiries@inforegulator.org.za.
Connections are encrypted over HTTPS and access to the systems above is limited to what's necessary. No system is perfectly secure; if a compromise affects your information I'll notify you and the Regulator as POPIA requires.
This site isn't directed at children and I don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
I'll update this page when things change, and the date at the top will change with it.
